The Position:

We are looking for eager, driven candidates with experience in people management, communication, facilitation, problem-solving, and analysis to guide our teams in developing impactful solutions for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). As a Subject Matter Expert - Government Financial Regulations with Censeo, you will play an important role as an acting project and program manager and emerging firm leader. You will work with the Office of Consumer Response that provides Quality Assurance, Stakeholder Services, Investigations, and Data & Governance support across the Bureau.

A typical day in the life of an SME is never quite the same, but it is always equally exciting and challenging. On any given day, you could be managing the day-to-day activities of multiple project teams, working closely with clients to understand their needs, developing strategies to meet those needs, and mentoring your junior team members.  Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring client satisfaction by working on Strategic Planning, Data Analytics, Acquisition Support, and Program Management projects
  • Plan, oversee, and carry out activities/projects including directing and coordinating of assigned team. Provide technical direction and assistance to the project team
  • Building client relationships across your client account, including understanding customer requirements and identifying and resolving delivery risks before they happen
  • Providing proactive strategic advice to clients, manage internal resources and finances, and report on key metrics like budget utilization, resource constraints, project issues/risks, etc. via standard tools and dashboards.
  • Serving as the primary quality assurance, working with contractor resources to ensure that deliverables and services are provided at highest level of quality.
  • Coaching team members on opportunities for improvement and providing regular project-based feedback to team members
  • Overseeing quality of delivery by Censeo staff and subcontractors
  • Building, managing, and maintaining a strong, qualified, and motivated team to support our customer requirements
  • Identifying and raising new opportunities to Censeo business development staff, and working with Censeo leadership to plan account development
  • Owning and maintaining hypothesis development process and guiding team members through required analyses
  • Consistently deriving sound business insights from analysis of complex issues
  • Recommending actionable solutions for work stream(s) and providing input to the recommendations of the entire case, or significant subset

  • BA/BS with strong academic background
  • 12+ years of relevant experience, ideally in a Federal consulting environment ideally supporting financial regulatory agencies (such as CFBB, SEC, FFIEC, FDIC, OCC, FRB, NCUA, HUD) or financial services organizations (e.g., banks, credit unions, etc.).
  • 6+ years of experience diversified experience that includes planning studies, analysis and recommendations to business problems, providing leadership to peers and team members, supporting business process evaluation, redesign, recommendation and implementation of redesigned business process solutions through partnerships and relationship building with stakeholders, project management, developing functional requirements, policy development, organization, direction, and change management
  • A deep understanding of the requirements, environmental factors, organizations, activities, constraints, risks, and motivations impacting federal clients
  • Experience in Strategic Planning, data analytics, business performance management, process improvement, and Organizational Change Management (Prosci) Preferred
  • Demonstrated effectiveness applying program management practices across all phases of a project (from inception through completion)
  • Strong creative problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or similar
  • Master’s Degree in business, finance, or similar field
  • Prior experience supporting CFPB in general, and the Office of Consumer Response specifically
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or similar certifications.

The Location:

Censeo Consulting Group is based in Washington D.C., but for now, we’re all working from home. Normally, we work at an office conveniently located in the heart of downtown D.C., just a few blocks away from the White House. And with many of our clients also based in D.C., we have the luxury of leaving for a meeting and being back in the office in time for post-work happy hours, team dinners, and game nights. 

The Fine Print:

  • Expected travel 0-10%; may increase based on business needs 
  • This is an exempt, part-time position
  • Essential Physical Functions
    • Sitting: Particularly for sustained periods of time
    • Light Carrying: Physically transporting items weighing less than 15 pounds from one location to another
